After the success of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, studios are now more wary of releasing films on the same weekend that Marvel does. Warner Bros. has just announced that the upcoming Peter Pan adaption ‘Pan’ has had its release date moved back, making Marvel’s ‘Ant Man’ the sole opener for that weekend. Both films were originally slated for a July 17, 2015 release but ‘Pan’ has now been pushed back a week to July 24, 2015.
This isn’t the first time that Warner Bros. has moved one of its films to a different release date to avoid competeing with a Marvel adaptation. Earlier this year, they shifted the date of their upcoming DC comics adaption ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ to avoid competing with ‘Captain America: Civil War’ in 2016.
‘Pans’ new release date is on a much more crowded weekend with two other nationwide releases being released; ‘Pixels’ and the ‘Poltergeist’ remake.
‘Ant Man’ comes to theaters on July 17, 2015 and stars Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly, Hayley Atwell, Bobby Cannavale, and Michael Pena. The film is directed by Peyton Reed.
‘Pan’ comes to theaters on July 24, 2015 and stars Hugh Jackman, Rooney Mara, Garrett Hedlund, Amanda Seyfried, Cara Delevingne and Levi Miller. The film is directed by Joe Wright.
