After losing director Roberto Orci, the director’s chair for the the upcoming third Star Trek film became one of the most sought after postitions in Hollywood. Yesterday however, that role has been filled by director Justin Lin.
Lin who directed four films in the Fast and Furious series has been credited with its revival and helped those films to make $1.9 billion at the international box office. He is also currently attached to direct three other films including the untitled Bourne film staring Jeremy Renner, ‘The Wolf Man’ and an untitled Shaolin Temple movie.
Now that the film has its director, Paramount has also announced a release date of July 8, 2016. This release date also coincides with the 50th anniversary of Star Trek. As of right now there are no story details to be reported. Reports say the the original script written by Roberto Orci was scraped by Paramount.
‘Star Trek 3’ will be released on July 8, 2016 and stars Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana and Zachary Quinto. The film is directed by Justin Lin.
