2015 Movie Preview – Part 1

2014 has been an exciting year at the cinema with movies such as ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’, the final ‘Hobbit’, ‘The LEGO Movie’ and many other films that captivated us. The beginning of 2015 is sure to pack one hell of a punch, make us laugh, satisfy some urges and bring us back to our childhoods. Part 1 of Film Mention’s 2015 Movie Preview shows what January through April has to offer!

Mortdecai – January 23, 2015

Johnny Depp is once again bringing a whacky character to life in the upcoming comedy ‘Mortdecai’. Depp plays Charlie Mortdecai, a British art dealer who must track down a lost painting that has has a code leading to a lost Nazi treasure trove. Staring alongside Johnny Depp is Gwyneth Paltrow, Ewan McGregor, Paul Bettany, Jeff Goldblum and Olivia Munn.

Jupiter Ascending – February 6, 2015

After being moved around several times, ‘Jupiter Ascending’ finally comes to theaters in 2015. Created and directed by The Wachowskis (The Matrix Series & Cloud Atlas), the films tell the story of Jupiter Jones (Mila Kunis) who is revealed to be the rightful heir to a galactic throne that puts her in the crosshairs of a power hungry dynasty. Also staring in the movie is Channing Tatum, Eddie Redmayne, Sean Bean, and Douglas Booth.

The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water – February 6, 2015

Coming out the same day as ‘Jupiter Ascending’, our favourite sponge comes to the big screen in ‘The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water’. SpongeBob, Patrick, Sandy, Squidward and Mr. Crabs find themselves on land to recover the stolen Crabby Patty formula before Bikini Bottom falls into chaos! The gang turns into superheroes to fight a burger-flipping pirate (Antonia Banderas) and his crew.

Fifty Shades of Grey – February 13, 2015

Based off of the best selling novel, ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ is one of the most anticipated movies of 2015. When Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) goes to interview billionaire Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan), she didn’t realize that she would be thrust into a world of lust and luxury. With sex, love and Beyonce songs, this is certainly going to do massive business when it comes out on Valentine’s Day.

Cinderella – March 13, 2015

After Snow White and Sleeping Beauty are reimagined for the big screen, ‘Cinderella’ finally arrives to the ball in this stunning Kenneth Branagh directed film. Based off of the classic fairy tale, the live action Disney movie stars Lily James as Cinderella, Richard Madden, Helena Bonham Carter and Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett as the wicked step mother, Lady Tremaine.

The Divergent Series: Insurgent – March 20, 2015

After the success of the young adult movie ‘Divergent’, many people are looking forward to its sequel ‘Insurgent’. The stakes are raised when Tris’ (Shailene Woodley) world descends into a war that will reshape the entire thinking of its people. The movie also stars Theo James, Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Jai Courtney Oscar nominee Naomi Watts and Oscar winners Octavia Spencer and Kate Winslet.

Furious 7 – April 3, 2015

The seventh installment in the hugely successful Fast & Furious series speeds into theaters in 2015. The last two movies in the series both made over $600 and $750 million respectively so a lot of people are anticipating this movie. This movie is also Paul Walkers last film due to the actor’s tragic death in a car accident in 2013. Alongside Walker, ‘Furious 7’ stars Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Kurt Russell and Jason Statham.
