While we for an official announcement that Universal is going ahead with a sequel to the hugely successful ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ adaptation, we may have found out the reason they haven’t announced it yet.
According to Variety, author E.L. James has demanded that she write the screenplay for the sequel, ‘Fifty Shades Darker’. Universal is reportedly not fond of the idea.
Most sequels aim to maintain the same team throughout the series, but it looks like many people are being ousted. Rumors have been swirling that director Sam Taylor-Johnson and screenwriter Kelly Marcel will not be returning to the series. Universal denies these claims at this time.
If E.L. James does write the screenplay, Variety estimates that the film would not be released until the beginning of 2017.
Do you think the sequel would benefit from have James write the script? Let us know in the comments.
