‘Hot Tub’ Sequel to Submit to ‘Fifty Shades’ this Weekend

‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ is expected to maintain the top spot at the box office this weekend, beating out new releases, ‘Hot Tub Time Machine 2’, ‘McFarland, USA’, and ‘The DUFF’.

Despite three now releases this weekend, the top three spots should remain in the hands of ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’, ‘Kingsman: The Secret Service’ and ‘The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water’.

After earning an impressive $85.2 million last weekend, expect the erotic drama to fall significantly in its second weekend. If ‘Fifty Shades’ follows the same pattern as other Valentine’s Day releases, we can expect a drop of around 70 percent. Also factoring in poor word-of-mouth and fans rushing out last weekend to see it, things do not look good for the the movie.

Despite all of that, the movie has held up incredibly well throughout the week, giving the film some hope for a better than expected haul. Expect the movie to earn somewhere around $30 million this weekend.

Second and third place will belong to ‘Kingsman’ and ‘The SpongeBob Movie’, respectively. Both should earn roughly $20 million this weekend.

In fourth place, expect ‘American Sniper’ to continue its amazing run with $10 million.

The three new releases, ‘Hot Tub Time Machine 2’, ‘McFarland, USA’, and ‘The DUFF’ will all be vying for the fifth spot, with all of them having the potential to hit $9 million.
