A Texas jury has found Eddie Ray Routh guilty of capital murder for shooting Navy Seal sniper Chris Kyle and his friend Chad Littlefield. Chris Kyle is portrayed by Bradley Cooper in the Oscar nominated film, ‘American Sniper’.
Routh showed no reaction when the guilty verdict was read, according to The Associated Press. He will serve a life sentence in prison without parole.
Routh pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity due to a mental disorder and PTS from his time in combat. According to Texas law, a person who suffers mental illness can still be found guilty if they understood what they did was wrong.
He will be officially sentenced at a later court hearing.
