First Look at ‘Maze Runner’ Sequel Starring Dylan O’Brien

After ‘The Maze Runner’ proved to be a massive success, 20th Century Fox has moved ahead with ‘The Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials’. Fans are getting their first look at the sequel starring Dylan O’Brien and Kaya Scodelario.

Entertainment Weekly and People Magazine have 6 exclusive photos from ‘The Scorch Trials’, showing the Gladers back in action.

The sequel picks up right after the events of the first movie with Thomas (Dylan O’Brien), Theresa (Kaya Scodelario), Newt (Thomas Brodie-Sangster) and Minho (Ki Hong Lee) discovering that they were put in the maze as a way of training survivors after the planet was hit by a solar flare. The Gladers will face all sorts of new challenges this time around and this is what producer Wyck Godfrey had to say about moving forward with the sequel.

“The first movie was the mystery of ‘Where are we and what is this place? And can we get out?’ But the second movie is about the repercussions of getting out and the discovery of what the world is actually like.”

This new world that they find themselves in is a “desert with sand dunes that crawl and are swallowing the ruins of a lost world,” said director Wes Ball. Also in this world, they find themselves encountering zombiesque creatures called Cranks who have been infected.

“We don’t want to call them zombies, but they fit into that category. They’re not undead, but they are rage-filled.”
