‘Cinderella’ must have a fairy god mother somewhere because the movie excelled, earning $23 million on Friday. Meanwhile, Liam Neeson’s ‘Run All Night’ failed to take off.
‘Cinderella’s’ $23 million opening is on par with other live-action remakes from Disney such as ‘Oz the Great and Powerful’ ($24.1M) and ‘Maleficent’ ($24.3M). If the movie follows the same pace as ‘Oz’, it could wind up with more than $75 million for the weekend.
‘Run All Night’ took second place with and estimated $3.86 million which is way below Neeson’s ‘Non Stop’. The movie will probably earn around $11 million for the weekend.
