After a string of live-action remakes from Disney hitting it huge at the box-office, it looks like the mouse house is eyeing another one of its princesses – Mulan.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney is currently developing a live-action remake of the 1998 animated movie ‘Mulan’.
Disney has bought a script written by Elizabeth Martin and Lauren Hynek that centers on the Chinese myth about a female warrior named Hua Mulan. Chris Bender and J.C. Spink have also come on as producers.
In the animated film, a young woman disguises herself as a man in order to join the army and defend China against the Huns. ‘Mulan’ made $304.3 million at the international box office when it was released in 1998.
‘Mulan’ will be joining a list of already released remakes such as ‘Maleficent’ and ‘Cinderella’. Also, Disney plans on releasing remakes of ‘Beauty and the Beast’, ‘The Jungle Book’ and ‘Dumbo’.
