Avengers: Age of Ultron (Review)

Just like Filmention, our favorite gang of superheroes is back in the action packed sequel ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’.

Going into this movie, expectation are extremely high considering that the first Avengers movie set the standard for all superhero films. Does the sequel beat the first one – no. But this movie is still one of the best superhero movies to ever be released.

This time around, there isn’t an adoptive brother stomping around because he was thrown from his thrown. Since the events of Loki’s plan to dominate the earth, the world is a very different place where superheroes are actually a thing and not fantasy. Anyone who has watched ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’, ‘Agents of Shield’ or the new Netflix series ‘Daredevil’, already know that we are dealing with a very different world.

This time Iron Man, Captain America, the Black Widow, Thor, the Hulk, Hawkeye and Shield must defend the earth from their most deadly foe yet – Ultron. Ultron was created out of an A.I. project that Tony Stark and Bruce Banner were trying to develop called “Ultron” which would act as a first line of defense in the event that aliens attacked again. Unfortunately, Ultron turns out to be something very different; killing JARVIS, setting a group of robots on the Avengers and escaping.

The thing that I liked most about this movie is how almost every character had a redemption moment. Most notably, the newest additions to the Avengers, the Maximoff twins, Wanda and Pietro have a major redeeming moment. Originally they are on the side of Hydra and Ultron’s but once they see what their plans are, they jump ship and this decision will have fatal consequences.

Another moment is seeing part of Natasha’s backstory when she was being trained as an assassin. It is amazing to see where her character started in these flashbacks to now. I think a lot of credit goes to Scarlett Johansson for this character becoming so beloved by so many people. She embodies this character and makes every part of her story feel believable. I also love the way she calls out reporters on their shit every time one of them is dumb enough to ask her about how she fits in her outfit.

This review is going to be a bit shorter than I would normally do but it has already been two weeks since I’ve seen the movie. What I can tell you is that the acting is top notch, the action is more epic and the carnage is real! Go watch this movie immediately, but then again, you probably already have since it is nearing $1 billion at the international box office. Well then, SEE IT AGAIN!
