20th Century Fox is adding another ‘X-Men’ title to its repertoire with the announcement of a new spinoff ‘The New Mutants’. The film will be helmed and co-written by ‘The Fault in Our Stars’ director Josh Boone.
Boone will be writing alongside Knate Gwaltney with Simon Kinberg and Lauren Shuler Donner producing. Kinberg had the following to say about Josh Boone coming on as director.
“We’re so excited to explore this new part of the X-Men universe, and so excited to do it with Josh, who is uniquely suited to tell this story about young characters.”
The New Mutants comic books were first introduced in 1982 and consisted of much younger mutants that attended Professor Xavier’s school. The line-up is ever changing but the original gang consisted of Cannonball, Sunspot, Wolfsbane, Karma and Dani Moonstar, and Professor X.
Currently, Boone has two movies that he is attached to direct before ‘New Mutants’ so we shouldn’t expect this movie to hit theaters for quite some time. Don’t worry though, Fox is still delivering a heavy dose of X-Men with the releases of X-Men: Apocalypse (27 May 2016), Gambit (October 7, 2016) and Wolverine 3 (March 3, 2017).
