Marvel courts Ava DuVernay to Direct Phase 3 Movie

‘Selma’ director Ava DuVernay is rumored to be in talks with Marvel to direct one of their Phase 3 superhero movies.

It isn’t known which movie she is in talks to direct but all indicators point toward it being either ‘Back Panther’ or ‘Captain Marvel’. Both films have been given 2018 release dates with ‘Black Panther’ being released in July and ‘Captain Marvel’ in November. It is more likely that she will direct ‘Black Panther’ due to Angelina Jolie rumored to be in deep talks with Marvel to direct ‘Captain Marvel’.

This news comes on the heels of the American Civil Liberties Union’s claims that Hollywood actively discriminates against female directors and their demand that state and federal agencies launch an investigation of Hollywood agency’s hiring practices. If hired, DuVernay will be the first woman and person of color to direct a Marvel film.

It has become evident that Marvel is looking for a person of color to direct ‘Black Panther’ and a woman to direct ‘Captain Marvel’. Obviously, DuVerynay fits both bills.
