After scoring a massive hit with ‘Furious 7,’ James Wan has found his next hit in Warner Bros. adaptation of Aquaman’. The director has also inked a deal to direct Robotech for Sony.
The Hollywood Reporter reports that Wan has signed deal to direct both of these movies. Aquaman will be a part of Warner Bros. expanding DC Comics film adaptations which star Game of Thrones’ Jason Momoa as the titular character. Robotech is hopefully the next big franchise for Sony which is based on the 1980s anime featuring mechas.
This marks a huge step into the future for the director who is just coming off of the massive success of his latest movie ‘Furious 7’. So far, the film has earned more than $1.5 billion at the international box office. His next film will be The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist which hits theaters June 10, 2016.
James Wan has a long history of launching successful franchises. Most notably, he directed the 2004 hit horror movie Saw which spanned a franchise that grossed nearly a billion dollars. He also directed The Conjuring which broke box office records when it went on to earn $318 million and he directed several films in the Insidious series which also saw huge success.
Aquaman currently has a release date of July 27, 2018. Fans can get their first look at Jason Momoa as Aquaman when Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters next year. Aquaman will also be featured in The Justice League movies which will be directed by Zac Snyder.
