There has been a lot of speculation over who would win the coveted role as Spider-Man/Peter Parker in Marvel and Sony’s reboot. Yesterday, the studios confirmed that Tom Holland will play the webslinger in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In addition to the casting announcement, the studios also announced that Cop Car director Jon Watts will helm the first film in the reboot.
Tom Rothman, Sony Pictures Motion Pictures Group chairman, said in a press release.
“I’ve worked with a number of up-and-coming directors who have gone on to be superstars and believe that Jon is just such an outstanding talent,” said Rothman. “For Spidey himself, we saw many terrific young actors, but Tom’s screen tests were special. All in all, we are off to a roaring start.”
Fans won’t have to wait to see Tom Holland suit up because he is expected to make an appearance in Captain America: Civil War.
