‘Star Trek’s’ Leonard Nimoy, Dies at 83

Leonard Nimoy lived long and prospered indeed, portraying the iconic role of Spock in the original ‘Star Trek’ series. The actor died Friday in Los Angeles of end-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. He was 83.

Earlier this year, Leonard Nimoy announced that he has been diagnosed with the disease. He was hospitalized at the earlier this week. Nimoy attributed the disease to several years of smoking.

Nimoy is most known for portraying the half-human, half-vulcan Spock in the original ‘Star Trek’ TV and film series. He also directed the two ‘Star Trek’ films ‘The Search for Spock’ and ‘The Voyage Home’. He also went on to act, direct, write and photograph in many other successful ventures.

Fellow ‘Star Trek’ cast members William Shatner and George Takei expressed their sorrow earlier today at Nimoy’s death.

He posted his last tweet on Feb. 22, conveying this poignant message.

Leonard Nimoy is survived by his wife Susan, and his two children, and six grandchildren from a previous marriage.
